MEDIA RELEASE: “Parliamentary Clubs” take off in Queensland
July 31, 2007
The Constitution Education Fund Australia (CEFA) has showcased its groundbreaking new civics education initiative, ‘The Parliamentary Club’, in Queensland. The Director of the Parliamentary Club National Initiative, Don Perna, presented the concept to the Business Educator’s Association of Queensland state conference at the Brisbane Convention Centre, Saturday July 28th.
Don Perna said earlier today “The project is generating great interest in Queensland and CEFA is now preparing to instigate a secondary school’s pilot program later this year to join its NSW secondary and primary counterparts. Ten Queensland schools now await training which will be provided by CEFA, further increasing the number of Australian schools who have already realized the potential this initiative has in creating a new generation of informed and active citizens.
CEFA is unveiling the Parliamentary Club around Australia and has been invited to showcase in Melbourne at the History Teacher’s Association of Victoria’s state conference on October 26, the combined Primary and Secondary Principal’s National Conference in Hobart on October 1. A pilot is also being launched in Western Australia in the coming months.
Don Perna added “Success stories are emerging daily from schools who have initiated the project. Students feel empowered through the leadership opportunities offered by the Parliamentary Club to become more responsible and engaged in all aspects of their schooling.”
