MEDIA RELEASE: Secondary School's Parliamentary Club Pilot Program a great success
CEFA’s secondary school’s pilot program has begun with success stories across NSW. Eight schools are now implementing the program with enormous interest being shown by educators, Members of Parliament, wider communities and the students themselves.
After attending professional development at the Constitution Education Fund Australia National Office, teachers from secondary schools from across New South Wales are now implementing this exciting new initiative, which brings together all the key stakeholders to deliver the most groundbreaking civics education initiative in Australian school history.
The national implementation of this initiative is being acknowledged as a major step forward in filling the void which exists in civics education today. Schools are making front page headlines in their local communities and student parliaments are being created within The Parliamentary Club structure.
CEFA’s Parliamentary Club Director Don Perna was invited to unveil this project at Queensland History Teacher’s Association State Conference held June 23, 2007 in Brisbane.
The Parliamentary Club initiative will again be showcased at next month’s Business Educator’s Association of Queensland State Conference with the objective of establishing our first secondary school’s pilot program in Queensland later this year.
Similarly, the Victorian History Teacher’s Association State Conference has expressed interest in the program and CEFA has received an invitation to address the Conference in October.
Expressions of interest have also been voiced by The Australian Primary and Secondary School’s Principal Association and we are looking forward to an opportunity to demonstrate the merits of the program later this year.
By the end of 2007, intensive training sessions for school teachers right across the eastern seaboard of Australia will ensure the already positive momentum seen in The Parliamentary Club further strengthened.
Our aim is to expand this essential civic educational tool to every school in the nation and in doing so to help create a new generation of informed and active young citizens imbued with values of democracy and freedom.
