CEFA has trained teachers to utilise the strategies needed to implement a Parliament in their respective schools in a variety ways.
• Face to face workshops • Tele-conferencing • Resource materials and online support • On site school visits • Training DVDs • Informative website with current updates
As the needs of schools differ, CEFA tailors a professional development program to suit each individual school. One of the major aspects of this initiative is that CEFA is able to draw on all the current stakeholders and combine a variety of sources and organisations whose common goal is civics education.
We collaborate with the Australian Electoral Commission to assist in the election process within each school that undertakes the project. The AEC enjoys the contact with schools and students who are participating in a civics activity of this magnitude.
CEFA’s Parliaments in Schools are able to assist the AEC in its drive to enrol all students who are 17 years of age onto the electoral roll. We refer our coordinating teachers to the Parliamentary Education Office and its resources to assist in implementing different stages of CSP. The online resources assist with activities such as role-plays of sessions of parliament and are invaluable to teachers of our pilot programs.
We plan events that take place in Old Parliament House Canberra and NSW Parliament House Sydney to enhance the learning experience for our students regardless of current curriculum being studied. This gives an even more authentic experience for young Australians. We utilize organisations such as the Curriculum Corporation who convene events such as Discovering Democracy Week and we encourage schools to take part in this important event, to showcase their projects as well as continue The CPS activities throughout the school year.
