“The Parliamentary Club is an innovative initiative, established by a long standing educational professional who strongly believes that young people want to understand and participate in the civic process, and discharge their democratic responsibilities in Australia.” Euan Brown Longest serving Prime Minister St Joseph’s High School Albion Park “I encourage you to consider implementing this innovative and exciting new initiative to promote civics and citizenship education. The last three years of pilot programs around Australia have been an enormous success in both primary and secondary schools. I look forward to this new generation of Australians being the most knowledgeable and active citizens in our nation’s history. ”My two years as Prime Minister got me excited about the Australian political system and landscape. The Parliamentary Club influenced me in a big way and is certain to give young Australians the interest and know-how to engage themselves in political debate, injecting new ideas into the mix. With a new political era coming upon us and with the biggest issues facing the world since before the turn of the 20th century; global warming, the global food crisis and the global economic downturn, young faces, fresh minds and new ideas that raise a pulse can never be a bad thing. I have learnt so much from being in The Parliamentary Club. In years to come, I hope that this initiative will do the same for every other student in Australia, in America, in Bangladesh, in Iraq, in Saudi Arabia and in our entire global community. I hope that you, the students of today, will be the future of this initiative, and that The Parliamentary Club will give the young people of this world a voice. A voice to tell the world who we are and what we believe. Tiah Jones Year 11 Spokesperson for the School Spirit Party Grace Lutheran College Qld “The Parliamentary Club has opened up new doors and given me an insight into the world of politics” Iain McDonald Spokesperson for The Rev(S)olution Party Grace Lutheran College Qld “This experience in The Parliamentary Club has provided some great opportunities to make changes throughout the school.” Mr. Peter Turner Director of Education Catholic Diocese of Wollongong I write to offer my congratulations on your nomination as Catholic Education Commission representative to the National Civics and Citizenship Education Forum to be held in Canberra in June. This is an honour for you and recognises your service to education in the area of Civics. 1/2
