March 2, 2009 Eight NSW high schools participated in the Parliamentary Club Teachers Training at the CEFA National Office in Sydney on Friday February 27, 2009.
Schools from both the public and private sector were represented. The training for these teachers included sessions on implementing a whole-of-school civics, citizenship and student leadership project, building learning communities and incorporating cross-disciplinary activities. The eight schools represented on the day were: The King’s School Roseville College Waverley College Caringbah High School St Aloysius College Tempe High School Trinity College Strathfield Randwick High School Many of the teachers who attended the training course are now able to use CEFA’s Parliamentary Club professional development in the teacher accreditation process with the NSW Institute of Teachers. The Parliamentary Club training is now registered by the NSW Institute of Teachers and as one of their endorsed courses. All new scheme teachers must attend 100 hours of professional development within a 5-year period and 50 of these must come from endorsed courses. CEFA will now support these schools through the implementation process. Each participant was presented with a resource kit that included DVDs, written materials and posters to enhance the teaching and learning of civics and citizenship within their school. Over 150 schools have now been introduced to the CEFA Parliamentary Club Initiative and CEFA is receiving numerous inquiries from schools around the nation For further enquiries, please contact the Parliamentary Club Director, Mr Don Perna on 0404 488 245. |
