July 16, 2008 Today the CEFA Parliamentary Club training course gained accreditation through the NSW Quality Teaching Council and is now registered with the NSW Institute of Teachers as an endorsed provider of professional development for all NSW schoolteachers.
This is a major development for CEFA and recognition of its work in the area of Civics and Citizenship Education. The Council consists of a cross-section of representatives from all areas of the education sector in NSW including the Board of Studies, teacher unions, the NSW Department of Education, Catholic Education Commission and the Association of Independent Schools. The council also contains principals and teachers from the public and private education sectors. CEFA’s Parliamentary Club training course will now be placed on the Institute’s website register of endorsed providers of professional development. All new scheme teachers (graduate teachers from 2004 onwards) on gaining accreditation of professional competence, must now participate in 100 hours of professional development over a 5 year period, and 50 hours must consist of Institute registered courses. CEFA will now take the Parliamentary Club training course to each of the state and territory Institutes of Teachers (or equivalent) to gain accreditation, bringing the goal of national implementation closer to fruition. |
