December 20, 2007 The 2007 Tertiary Essay winners for the Governor-General’s Prize were judged and announced at the High Court of Australia offices in Sydney. Justice Michael Kirby AC CMG, Professor George Winterton of Sydney University and Professor Patrick Keyzer of Bond University judged the nine finalists of the Undergraduate Governor-General’s Essay Competition, a proud initiative of the Constitution Education Fund Australia (CEFA).
The finalists who wrote essays on some of the most challenging areas of our constitution were given their verdict after the judges announced the top 6 prize winners of the competition: 1st Scott Crawford from La Trobe University 2nd Braeden Donnelly from University of New England 3rd Jay Tilley from Monash University 4th Sarah Kavanagh from the University of Western Australia 5th Garrett Williams from Bond University 6th Susan Cirillo from University of Sydney. The other three finalists will receive highly commended awards. To celebrate the success of the competition and the announcement of the winners, The Constitution Education Fund Australia staff and board of trustees joined with the judges to congratulate the robust intellect of the finalists. In his congratulations speech, Justice Kirby stated ‘I thoroughly enjoyed hearing intelligent young people present their arguments.’ The winners and finalists will receive their awards and cash prizes at CEFA’s Governor-General’s Ceremony to be held in March 2008. |
