Civics and Citizenship Awards 2010 Following are the 2010 civics awards programs being offered to students across Australia aged 8 to 25. The CEFA School Parliaments - Primary & Secondary - (CSPs)
The CEFA School Parliaments are a major civics education project being implemented across Australia. Adapted for both primary and secondary schools, they can be a whole of school or a special project political system. Participating students take on the roles of parliamentarians, advisers, parliamentary officers, ministers for special projects, committee members, journalists and cartoonists. Forming political parties, students conduct elections, produce school newspapers and debate issues relevant to them, their communities, Australia and the world. CEFA also offers special school parliament projects to individual schools, school clusters or learning communities such as youth leadership, indigenous, environmental, culturally diverse, orientation, health and fitness, multicultural and talented children projects. Participants' develop an understanding of responsible and active civics values, so important to life-long participation in our Australian democratic community. They learn about our history, democracy, system of government and constitution. They are educated on Australian values including freedom of speech, voting, our rule of law and teamwork. They take on personal responsibility within school and family communities. Read more... 2010 Governor-General's Undergraduate Essay Competition The Governor-General's Undergraduate Essay Competition is Australia's most prestigious civics essay competition. It is open to Australian undergraduate students studying in all faculties at universities across Australia and includes questions that are related to law, politics and history.
