AusCivics Film Festivals – a national imperative SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA 
Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, yesterday launched a major national civics education project, AusCivics Film Festivals, promoting the theme, "Celebrating the Australian Way” at Government House, Canberra. These film festivals are expected to reach millions of Australians during the remainder of 2010, particularly young Australians and emphasize the need for all Australians to become educated and engaged in our constitution and Australian Democracy. |

26 July 2010 The Constitution Education Fund Australia (CEFA) is delighted to announce the winners of the Governor-General’s Undergraduate Essay Competition. Now in its seventh year, Australia’s most prestigious essay competition provides university students with the opportunity to be recognised for their academic skill, talent and research. Finalists this year were interviewed by an eminent panel chaired by The Hon Robert French AC, Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia. His Honour hosted the judging of the finalists in his Sydney Chambers of the High Court on 23 July 2010. |

Over 90 Local Governments from across Australia have seized the opportunity to host an AusCivics Spring Festival for their local community in September/ October 2010. AusCivics has been created to engage and educate young Australians about the constitution and the five pillars of Australian democracy in new, interesting and fun ways. AusCivics; The National Imperative, in partnership with the Australian Electoral Commission, is working towards creating awareness through this month long national film festival in venues Australia wide. The festivals will feature informative civics education stands and screen films such as ‘Broken Hill’. It will be themed around civics education and voting through the CEFA five pillars and ten values (www.cefa.org.au) |

09/06/10 CEFA is delighted to announce the launch of the 2010 Governor-General’s Undergraduate Essay Competition. Australia’s most prestigious civics essay competition, it is open to Australian undergraduate students studying in all faculties at universities across Australia, including final year honours students, LLB and JD students. It includes questions that are related to law, politics and other contemporary issues facing Australia. |

31/5/2010 Whilst the CEFA national office in Sydney is abuzz preparing for the launch of the AusCivics national program and festivals, our work with the CEFA School Parliaments (CSPs) and the Governor-General Undergraduate Essay Annual Competition continues to blossom . CEFA recently published the 2010 edition of its CSP Implementation Guidelines to further support schools with their School Parliaments and the 2010 Questions for Governor-General’s Undergraduate Essay Competition are now online. Last week the Principal of Arkana College, Mr Osman Karolia, attended a training day as they prepare to start their own School Parliament. |
