Values in Action Schools Project – successful clusters

In October 2008, the Australian Government invited all Australian schools to apply for funding for the Values in Action Schools Project (VASP). VASP is an Australian Government initiative in which clusters of schools will be funded to design, implement and evaluate the outcomes of high quality values education projects.

The successful VASP clusters projects have been selected and they will commence their work with a briefing session in Melbourne later this month.

The Values in Action Schools Project will build on the work previously undertaken by schools since the National Framework for Values Education in Australian Schools was instigated in 2005.

The findings from this project will provide guidance to all Australian schools on using good practice values education outcomes for the long-term benefit of the whole school community. VASP offers an opportunity for school communities to explore how the explicit teaching of values can:

  • develop student resilience and positive learning environments
  • improve learning through fostering student wellbeing
  • develop student awareness and positive behaviours for a socially inclusive community
  • develop positive relationships and mutual understandings in Indigenous, interfaith and intercultural community settings
  • contribute to improvements in learning and general academic outcomes.

Clusters were selected and awarded based on a competitive application process and the selection criteria used included:

  • clear articulation of the VASP objectives
  • high quality and achievable outcomes
  • developing a whole school approach
  • effective and efficient use of resources
